The PerTrans workshop will bring together researchers from academia and industry who are interested in the application of pervasive computing technologies to transportation. The workshop will focus particularly on road transportation in all its facets including public and private transportation, passenger and freight systems, traveller information and assistance systems, and (urban) traffic control systems. Pervasive computing concepts (e.g., location and context awareness, activity monitoring, and personalization) have the potential to positively impact transportation. Envisioned impacts include improving the safety and efficiency of transportation, reducing operating costs, and improving the travel experience for drivers, passengers and other travellers. This workshop will consider how future vehicles will be at the heart of a globally-distributed service space, which consists of services hosted by and provided to vehicles, collaboratively and in cooperation with their surrounding environment. Publication All accepted papers will be published in the IEEE PerCom adjunct proceedings, an IEEE publication. Extended versions of best papers will be selected for post-workshop submission to a themed issue of IEEE Distributed Systems Online. Sponsorship Thanks to the generosity of our sponsor a limited number of travel grants are available to help defray the cost of attendance at the workshop by (co-)authors of accepted submissions who are full-time Ph.D. students.
