Dr. Stephen Farrell, a DSG research fellow and long time participant in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has been selected to serve as an IETF security area director for two years from March 2011. The IETF is the premier standards making body for the Internet having developed the core Internet standards for TCP/IP, HTTP and email. IETF area directors are responsible for the technical management of IETF activities and the Internet standards process. IETF area directors are also directly responsible for the actions associated with entry into and movement along the Internet "standards track," including final approval of specifications as Internet Standards.
